educational awareness about the global
landmine problem;
- Make a tangible difference
in the lives of mine-affected communities and landmine
survivors worldwide.
Member Benefits
Participants in Global Care’s Mine
Action Initiative will receive a teacher guidebook
entitled: **Nurturing Compassion and Global
Citizenship in Youth: An Educator’s Guide for Developing
and Promoting a Successful Mine Action Service Initiative.
Written by Mark Hyman and developed based on Mark’s
experiences in developing mine action initiatives with middle
school students in Tenafly, New Jersey, this guidebook provides
comprehensive guidelines for developing the following three
aspects of a successful mine action initiative:
- a unit of study
on the global landmine problem;
- a youth landmine presentation
for the purpose of educating your school and local community
about the landmine problem;
- a school-based mine action
initiative to support demining and the rehabilitation
of landmine survivors.
**Mark’s guidebook has been revised
and published as a full-length chapter in the 2006 book
entitled: Nurturing the Peacemaker in Our Students: A
Guide to Writing and Speaking Out About Issues of War and
Peace, edited by Chris Weber.
